Our Program

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS)

Our program is rehabilitative and educational — not clinical treatment or therapy. We work alongside any treatment team you already have, focused on the practical skills that support day-to-day independence, including help for ARMHS-eligible clients who are also facing substance use challenges.

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services

ARMHS

ARMHS is a range of Minnesota rehabilitative mental health services designed to help adults develop and enhance psychiatric stability, social competencies, personal and emotional adjustment, and independent living and community skills.

ARMHS practitioners don't provide direct services like housekeeping, personal care, or transportation themselves. Instead, they connect clients with community and healthcare resources, teach them how to use those services and supports, and advocate for their needs — building skills in the areas of life essential for everyday, independent living when mental health symptoms have decreased someone's functioning.

Qualified ARMHS practitioners from Community Development Center typically meet with clients twice a week to develop a treatment plan built around each client's self-identified goals and recovery vision.

A few places we help clients enroll

Summit Academy OIC Minneapolis College Saint Paul College Normandale Community College Century College

Public, independently operated schools — not run by or affiliated with Community Development Center. We help clients apply, enroll, and stay engaged.

Education & Employment

Most of our clients are working toward school or a job

For the large majority of the people we work with, ARMHS goals center on mental health stability alongside education and employment. That often means help enrolling in a workforce training program like Summit Academy OIC in Minneapolis, or in a Minnesota State community and technical college — Minneapolis College (formerly Minneapolis Community and Technical College, MCTC), Saint Paul College, and others across the Twin Cities.

Practitioners help with the practical steps — applications, financial aid paperwork, class schedules, transportation to campus — and keep working with clients once they're enrolled, since staying in school or employed is its own ongoing skill.

Getting Started

What ARMHS looks like week to week

1

Diagnostic Assessment

We confirm a qualifying diagnosis is on file, or help coordinate one if it isn't yet.

2

Individual Treatment Plan

Your practitioner builds a plan around the specific skills and goals that matter most to you.

3

Twice-Weekly Visits

Ongoing one-on-one sessions, typically twice a week in your home or community.

4

Progress Reviews

We check in on progress regularly and adjust the plan as your needs and goals change.

Part of your ARMHS plan

This isn't a stand-alone treatment program — it's built into the one-on-one ARMHS support you already receive, for clients who qualify.

Substance Use Support

Support for clients also facing substance use challenges

We don't run a separate addiction education or treatment program. But many of the adults we work with are also navigating substance use, and for clients who qualify for ARMHS based on a qualifying mental health diagnosis, your practitioner can build substance-use-related goals into your individual plan — connecting you to resources, coordinating with any treatment providers you already have, and building practical coping skills as part of your regular ARMHS visits. If you're looking specifically for licensed substance use disorder treatment, we can help connect you to the right provider.
